GUAY Pasatiempos Terms and Conditions
Version 1.0 · Effective 28 September 2026
GUAY Pasatiempos is the games section of GUAY.news: word search, sudoku, Quiz Guay and La Guay-labra, with a daily challenge, badges, streaks and leaderboards. It is free. You can play as a guest without giving us any data, or create a player account if you are at least 14 years old. Your player name, your avatar, your badges and your points on the leaderboards are public, so we recommend that you do not use your real name. Scores are calculated automatically and an anti-cheat system may put a game under review, but no penalty is applied without a person reviewing it. There are no prizes today: if there ever are, they will have their own rules, and coming first on a leaderboard does not entitle you to any prize. We may change or close the games, but only with good reason and giving you notice where appropriate. Nothing in these terms limits your rights as a consumer.
1. Who we are and purpose of these terms
GUAY Pasatiempos (the "Games" or the "Games Service") is the games section of the digital newspaper GUAY.news, available on the guay.news website at guay.news/pasatiempos/ and within the GUAY.news mobile apps for iOS and Android. It is provided by WEBSITESYSEO S.L., with registered address at Calle Antonio Rosón 1, 27002 Lugo (Spain), email info@websitesyseo.com and telephone +34 982 990 610 ("we", "us" or "GUAY.news"). Our tax ID (NIF) and company registration details are set out in the GUAY Pasatiempos Legal Notice and in the general GUAY.news Legal Notice.
These terms govern the relationship between you and us when you play the Games, whether you do so as a guest or with a player account. They cover, in particular, how scores, leaderboards, the daily challenge, badges and streaks work, the anti-cheat system and what happens with any future prizes.
The games available on the date of this version are:
- Word search: finding words hidden in a grid, with different difficulty levels.
- Sudoku: completing a number grid following its classic rules, with several levels.
- Quiz Guay: multiple-choice questions, many of them inspired by the good news published on GUAY.news, with a maximum of 10 seconds per question.
- La Guay-labra: the word of the day, which must be guessed in a limited number of attempts, with colour clues on the letters guessed correctly.
- Daily challenge: one special game per day, the same for everyone who plays.
We may add new games or modes; they will be governed by these terms unless specific conditions are published for them.
2. Relationship with the general GUAY.news terms
The Games are part of GUAY.news. Therefore, in addition to these terms, the GUAY.news general Terms of Use apply to you in anything not provided for here. These terms are supplemented by:
- the GUAY Pasatiempos Privacy Policy, which explains what data we process when you play, and the general GUAY.news Privacy Policy;
- the Participation and Prize Rules, which set out what counts as fair play, which names are allowed and how penalties work;
- the GUAY Pasatiempos Legal Notice, with the owner's details and the intellectual property regime;
- the GUAY.news Cookie Policy, as regards local storage on your device.
If there is a conflict between these terms and the general GUAY.news terms, these terms prevail as regards the games, being specific. In any case, whatever is most favourable to you always prevails if you are a consumer.
3. Acceptance, record of acceptance and new versions
3.1. Express acceptance
To create a player account you must expressly accept these terms and the Participation and Prize Rules by ticking a box that is never pre-ticked, and declare that you have read the GUAY Pasatiempos Privacy Policy. Before accepting, you can read, download and print these texts. Without that acceptance the account is not created, although you can continue playing as a guest under section 4.3.
3.2. Record of acceptance
To be able to prove your acceptance we keep a record of: the user accepting, the version of the document accepted, the date and time, the IP address, the user agent (browser or app and operating system) and the source of the acceptance (website, Android app or iOS app). We keep this record while your account is active and for up to five years after it is closed, solely to defend ourselves against possible claims, as explained in the GUAY Pasatiempos Privacy Policy.
3.3. New versions and re-acceptance
Each version of these terms has a number and an effective date, shown at the top. When we publish a version with relevant changes, we will ask you to accept it the next time you enter the Games with your account, showing you a summary of the changes and the full text. If you do not accept the new version:
- you may continue playing as a guest, without an account;
- you will not be able to use the features that require an account (leaderboards, public profile, synchronised badges) until you accept it, although we will keep your progress until you decide;
- you may delete your account at any time, at no cost and without penalty;
- the scores you have already obtained will remain on the leaderboards and records already closed.
4. Age requirements and guest mode
4.1. Minimum age to have an account
To create a player account you must be at least 14 years old, the age from which you can consent yourself to the processing of your personal data under Article 7 of Spanish Organic Law 3/2018 on the Protection of Personal Data and Guarantee of Digital Rights (LOPDGDD). For this reason the registration form asks you to confirm that you are 14 or older; if you do not tick that confirmation, the account is not created.
4.2. Children under 14
Children under 14 cannot register by themselves. They may only have a player account with the consent of their parents or legal guardians, who must request it by writing to info@websitesyseo.com. We may ask for the information reasonably necessary to verify that the person consenting actually holds parental responsibility or guardianship. Without it, children can play as guests, without an account.
If we detect that an account belongs to a child under 14 without that consent, we may suspend it and delete its data, as explained in the GUAY Pasatiempos Privacy Policy. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child under 14 has an account, write to us and we will delete it.
4.3. Playing as a guest
You can play without creating an account at levels 1 to 5 of the games that allow it. In guest mode we do not store any of your personal data on our servers: your progress is saved only on your device (in the local storage of the browser or the app) and is lost if you clear your browser data or uninstall the app. Guest games do not score on the leaderboards, do not create a public profile and do not give access to higher levels. If you later create an account, we may offer to transfer that progress to your account.
By declaring your age and providing your data you declare that they are true.
5. Your player account
The player account lets you save your progress on any device, take part in the leaderboards, earn badges, keep streaks and have a public profile. It is created with an email address and a player name and lets you sign in with a password or with a magic link: a single-use, short-lived link that we send you by email to sign in without a password.
- One person, one account. The account is personal and non-transferable. You may not have several accounts, share it, assign it or sell it, or create it on behalf of another person. The Participation and Prize Rules set this out in detail.
- Security. You are responsible for keeping your password and access to your email confidential, and for activity carried out with your account through lack of diligence. If you suspect someone has accessed your account, change the password and let us know as soon as possible at info@websitesyseo.com.
- Up-to-date data. Keep your email up to date, because we use it to sign you in, to notify you of important changes and to warn you before deleting an inactive account.
- Inactive accounts. If you do not use your account for 23 months we will warn you by email and, if it remains inactive, we will delete it 24 months after the last activity, under section 21.
6. Player name, avatar and public profile
When you create your account you choose a player name, which is public and unique: no two players can have the same name. That name, the avatar you choose from our list, your badges, your streaks and your positions and points on the leaderboards are shown to anyone on the leaderboards and on your public profile, at guay.news/pasatiempos/jugador/<your name>/.
We therefore recommend that you do not use your real first name and surname or any data that could identify or locate you. The player name must comply with the Participation and Prize Rules: it may not be offensive, discriminatory or misleading, impersonate another person, or include personal data, third-party trademarks or advertising.
We apply automatic filters for inappropriate words when you choose or change your name, and the team may review names. We may reject, change or block a name that breaches the rules, impersonates another person or infringes third-party rights. Unless the breach is serious or urgent, we will first ask you to change it yourself; if you do not do so within the stated period, we will assign you a neutral temporary name that you can replace with another valid one. We will always tell you the reason.
The player name does not give you any ownership right over it. If you delete your account, your name will become free and may be chosen by another person after a reasonable period, and in the records you will appear as "Deleted player".
7. A free service
The Games are free. We do not charge for playing, creating an account or accessing the leaderboards, and there are no in-game purchases, virtual currencies, loot boxes or paid advantages. There is no betting and nothing of economic value is at stake. If we ever introduced a paid feature, we would do so under specific conditions, informing you in advance and without affecting existing free features except with the notice provided for in section 15.
Badges, stars, streaks, points and positions have no economic value, cannot be exchanged for money or goods and cannot be transferred to another account.
8. Scores and leaderboards
8.1. How points are calculated
Scores are calculated automatically by our servers from the data of each game: the result (solved or not), the difficulty level, the time taken, the hints used, the mistakes made and, in Quiz Guay, the correct answers and speed of response within the 10 seconds of each question. In each game we show an explanation of how it is scored. We may adjust the scoring formulas to improve the balance of the game; adjustments will apply from their publication and will not alter leaderboards already closed, except as provided in section 8.5.
8.2. Leaderboards and periods
There are leaderboards per game and an overall leaderboard that adds up the results of all games, for these periods:
- Daily: from 00:00 to 23:59:59 each day, mainland Spain time (Madrid time zone).
- Weekly: ISO week, from Monday at 00:00 to Sunday at 23:59:59, Madrid time.
- Monthly: from the first to the last day of each calendar month, Madrid time.
- Annual: from 1 January to 31 December, Madrid time.
A game counts in the period in which it is finished according to the server time. Games played offline count in the period in which they were finished, provided they are synchronised within the margin stated in section 13. Only games played with an account and validated under section 9 score.
8.3. Closing of leaderboards and winners' record
At the end of each period, the leaderboard is closed and saved in a winners' record, showing the top positions of each period with their player name, avatar and points. Closing may take a reasonable time to complete the synchronisation of offline games and the review of games under review (section 9). The record is a form of recognition and memory of the game and could serve as a basis for possible future prizes, always under section 10.
8.4. Positions are not an acquired right
Positions and points reflect the state of the leaderboard at any given time and do not constitute an acquired right, nor any entitlement to claim any benefit. They may change while the period is open, when games are reviewed or when errors are corrected.
8.5. Corrections
We may correct scores, positions and leaderboards, even closed ones, when we detect a calculation error, a technical fault that has altered the results, or games obtained by cheating or in breach of the Participation and Prize Rules. If the correction affects your account, we will tell you with the reasons and you may request its review. Corrections to a closed leaderboard will be applied so that the other players occupy the position that corresponds to them.
9. Anti-cheat system
To keep the leaderboards fair we use an anti-cheat system with these measures:
- Game signing: each game is signed with a cryptographic code (HMAC) to check that the data reaching the server has not been tampered with.
- Minimum human times: if a game is solved in a time that is not reasonably achievable by a person, it is flagged for review.
- Pattern detection: anomalous patterns are analysed automatically, such as impossible answer sequences, synchronised activity between accounts, an unusual number of games or requests, or signs of automation.
- Request limits: we limit the number of requests per IP address (processed as a salted cryptographic hash, never in clear) to prevent abuse.
The automated system only flags suspicious games. A flagged game does not add points until a member of the team reviews it. If the review confirms the game is valid, its points are added with effect from when it was played, and the leaderboard is recalculated. No penalty is applied without prior human review.
If you think one of your games has been flagged by mistake, you can request its review by writing to info@websitesyseo.com or using the option in your profile, if available. We will try to review flagged games before the corresponding leaderboard closes and, in any case, we will reply within one month at most. How penalties are decided and graded is explained in the Participation and Prize Rules and, as regards your data and automated decisions, in the GUAY Pasatiempos Privacy Policy.
10. Prizes
At present, GUAY Pasatiempos does not offer prizes of any kind, whether in cash or in kind. The leaderboards, badges and winners' record have value purely as recognition and entertainment.
If in the future we decide to hold prizes, competitions or prize draws linked to the Games:
- they will be governed by specific rules, published in advance of the opening of the period or competition to which they refer, which will state, among other things, the scope, the requirements for taking part, the verification procedure, the tax treatment and the deadlines, as explained in the Participation and Prize Rules;
- only positions obtained in the periods and competitions expressly included in those rules will give entitlement to a prize;
- participation will remain free unless the rules clearly state otherwise and the law allows it.
Consequently, the positions you obtain on the current leaderboards, including the winners' record, do not entitle you to any prize, now or in the future, unless rules published later expressly provide so.
11. Content generated with the help of artificial intelligence
Some Quiz Guay questions, some hints and some words or definitions are prepared with the help of artificial intelligence from news already published on GUAY.news, and are reviewed by the team before being included in the games. We do not send any player data to AI providers for this purpose.
Despite the review, there may be errors: a badly worded question, an incorrect or outdated answer, a confusing hint. If you find one, you can report it with the game's "Report an error" button, if available, or by writing to info@websitesyseo.com. If we confirm it, we will correct or withdraw the question and, where the error has affected scores, we may recalculate them under section 8.5. The questions are for entertainment purposes and do not constitute professional information or advice of any kind.
12. Availability
We provide the Games with diligence and try to keep them continuously available, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free availability. There may be interruptions due to maintenance, updates, incidents at our providers (hosting, email, app stores) or causes beyond our control. When an interruption prevents completion of the daily challenge or significantly affects a leaderboard, we may extend the deadline, cancel that challenge or recalculate the affected leaderboard fairly for all players. Relevant scheduled interruptions will be announced in advance where possible.
13. Offline mode
The app lets you play some games offline. Games are saved, signed, on your device and sent to the server the next time you connect. For them to count on the leaderboards:
- they must be synchronised before the closing of the corresponding leaderboard period; those arriving later will be saved in your progress but will not score in that closed period;
- they must pass the anti-cheat checks in section 9, including signature verification;
- the daily challenge only scores if synchronised within the same day, Madrid time, unless we state otherwise.
If you clear the app data or uninstall the app before synchronising, pending games will be lost. We are not liable for that loss when it is due to causes beyond our control.
14. Permitted use
You may use the Games to play, for personal and non-commercial purposes, in compliance with these terms and the Participation and Prize Rules. In particular, it is prohibited to use bots, scripts, macros or automatic solvers, to tamper with the network, the client or game data, to exploit bugs, to have several accounts, to share or sell them, or to collude with others to alter the leaderboards. The prohibitions in the permitted and prohibited use section of the GUAY.news general Terms of Use also apply, including automated extraction of content and its use to train AI systems.
15. Modification, suspension and termination of the service, games, leaderboards and accounts
15.1. Changes to the games and leaderboards
The Games are a living product. We may at any time modify, add, suspend or stop offering games, levels, modes, badges or leaderboards, and change the scoring rules, design and operation, for technical, security, game-balance, legal or editorial reasons or for the viability of the project. If a change is substantial and adverse to you, we will give you reasonable notice where possible.
15.2. Resetting and recalculating rankings
We may reset or recalculate rankings, including closed ones, where there is good reason, in particular: calculation or technical errors, detected cheating, changes to a game that make previous scores incomparable, or an interruption that has affected players unequally. We will tell you the reason and, except where it is to correct errors or cheating, we will announce resets with reasonable notice. Resetting a leaderboard will not affect the positions already recorded in the winners' record, unless they are due to errors or cheating.
15.3. Closure of the Games or of a game
We may also terminate the Games as a whole or a particular game. In that case we will give you reasonable notice, which will be at least 30 days, unless the closure is due to a legal obligation, an order from an authority or force majeure preventing it, so that you can check your progress, request a copy of your data and exercise your rights.
15.4. Suspension or blocking of accounts and cancellation of scores
We may at any time cancel games or scores, temporarily exclude a player from the leaderboards, change a player name, temporarily suspend or permanently block an account where there is good reason, in particular:
- breach of these terms, the Participation and Prize Rules or the law, especially if serious or repeated;
- cheating confirmed after the human review in section 9;
- security reasons: unauthorised access, automated activity, fraud, impersonation or risk to other players or the service;
- failure to meet the age requirements in section 4;
- a legal obligation or an order or request from a competent authority.
The measure will be proportionate to the seriousness of the breach, according to the scale in the Participation and Prize Rules. Except in serious or urgent cases or where the law or an authority prevents it, we will warn you beforehand and give you the opportunity to correct your conduct. In any case we will notify you of the decision and its reasons by email, stating the facts, the rule applied and whether an automated system was involved, and you may request its review within six months. It will be reviewed by a person other than the one who took the decision, who will give a reasoned decision. You may also use the channels in section 25.
15.5. Effects
No modification, suspension or termination will affect your data protection rights, including access to your data and its portability, or your rights as a consumer. As the Games are free and points, badges and positions have no economic value, their modification, reset or closure does not give rise to compensation, unless it is due to wilful misconduct or gross negligence on our part or the law provides otherwise. If a competition with prizes under section 10 were in progress at the time of the change, its rules will apply.
16. Intellectual property
The games, their design, their original rules, the texts, the Quiz Guay questions and answers, the La Guay-labra words and definitions, the grids, the illustrations, the avatars, the badges, the code, the databases and the distinctive signs (such as "GUAY Pasatiempos", "Quiz Guay" and "La Guay-labra") are protected by intellectual and industrial property law and belong to WEBSITESYSEO S.L. or its licensors.
We grant you a personal, free, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable licence to use the games for private purposes, in accordance with these terms. You may not copy, extract on a large scale or systematically, redistribute or commercially exploit the games, questions or grids, or use them to train AI systems. You may, however, share your results (for example, the La Guay-labra colour grid) and links to the games. The full regime is set out in the GUAY Pasatiempos Legal Notice.
17. Relationships between users
The Games publicly display player names and their results, and you can share your results on other platforms. GUAY.news is not a party to, nor responsible for, the relationships, communications, agreements, bets, exchanges or transactions you establish with other players or third parties, within or outside the service, as a result of the games or leaderboards (for example, challenges between friends, private bets or alleged sales of accounts). Those relationships are established exclusively between you and the other party, who is responsible for them. We recommend that you act with caution and do not give personal data or payments to strangers claiming to represent GUAY.news: we will never ask you for your password or any payment to play or to receive a prize.
The above is without prejudice to our liability for unlawful content hosted on the service (such as an unlawful player name) of which we have actual knowledge and do not remove diligently, under Article 16 of Spanish Law 34/2002 on information society services and electronic commerce (LSSI) and Regulation (EU) 2022/2065 on Digital Services.
18. Unlawful activity and cooperation with the authorities
If we detect or are notified of allegedly unlawful activity related to the Games (for example, fraud, identity theft, cyberattacks, harassment or fraudulent sale of accounts), we may report it to the competent authorities and we will cooperate with the courts, the Public Prosecutor's Office and the law enforcement agencies, responding to the requests they address to us in accordance with the law.
If we become aware of information giving rise to a suspicion that a criminal offence involving a threat to the life or safety of persons has taken place, is taking place or is likely to take place, we will immediately inform the competent authorities. For this purpose we may retain and disclose the necessary data, as explained in the GUAY Pasatiempos Privacy Policy.
19. Liability
We are liable for complying with these terms and for the damage we cause you through breach of them, in accordance with the law. In particular:
- We do not exclude or limit our liability for wilful misconduct or gross negligence, for death or personal injury, or any liability that cannot be excluded by law, especially that owed to you as a consumer under the consolidated text of the Spanish General Law for the Protection of Consumers and Users (TRLGDCU).
- Outside those cases, and to the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for damage not attributable to us, such as that arising from: your use of the games contrary to these terms; loss of progress saved only on your device; failures of your device or connection; acts of other players or third parties; or interruptions caused by third parties or force majeure.
- The questions, words and content of the games are for entertainment purposes. We are not liable for decisions you take based on them, except in the case of wilful misconduct or gross negligence on our part.
- If you are not a consumer, and except in the case of wilful misconduct or gross negligence, our liability is limited to direct and foreseeable damage, excluding loss of profit and indirect damage.
We will not be liable for delay or non-performance due to force majeure, under the terms of the GUAY.news general Terms of Use.
20. Deleting your account
You can delete your player account whenever you want, at no cost and without giving reasons, using the "Delete account" option in your profile in the Games (on the website or in the app) or by writing to info@websitesyseo.com. Deletion terminates this contract and means:
- deletion of your account data, your progress, your badges, your streaks and your public profile;
- that on closed leaderboards and in the winners' record your results remain anonymised, shown as "Deleted player", so as not to alter the positions of others;
- the blocked retention, only for the periods stated in the GUAY Pasatiempos Privacy Policy, of data that must be kept, such as the record of acceptances and, where applicable, the file of a pending penalty;
- deletion of your data from backups when these are rotated, within 14 days at most.
Deletion is irreversible: we will not be able to recover your progress. Deleting the player account does not affect other accounts or subscriptions you have with GUAY.news, such as the newsletter, which are managed separately.
21. Inactive accounts
So as not to keep unnecessary data, if your account records no activity (signing in or playing) for 23 months, we will send you an email warning you that it will be deleted. If you do not come back, the account will be deleted 24 months after the last activity, with the same effects as voluntary deletion under section 20.
22. Amendments to these terms
We may amend these terms for legal, regulatory, technical or security reasons or because of changes to the games. If the change is relevant to you, we will notify you with reasonable notice (generally at least 15 days before it takes effect, unless the change is imposed by law or by an authority, or is necessary for security) by email or in the Games themselves, and we will ask you to accept the new version under section 3.3. Changes will not have retroactive effect. We keep previous versions and will provide them to you on request.
23. Communications
We will communicate with you in Spanish (or in English if you use the Games in that language) by electronic means: to the email associated with your account and through notices on the website or in the app. We will only send you service communications (sign-in, changes to these terms, review notices, penalties or inactive accounts); optional communications, such as game news, only if you give us your consent, which you may withdraw at any time. You can contact us at info@websitesyseo.com, by telephone on +34 982 990 610 or by post to WEBSITESYSEO S.L., Calle Antonio Rosón 1, 27002 Lugo (Spain).
24. Governing law and jurisdiction
These terms are governed by Spanish law, without prejudice to the protection afforded to you by the mandatory rules of the European Union country in which you habitually reside if you are a consumer. If you are a consumer, you may bring proceedings before the courts of your place of residence, in accordance with Article 90.2 of the TRLGDCU. If you are not a consumer, the parties expressly submit to the courts of Lugo (Spain).
25. Dispute resolution
We want to resolve any problem amicably. Before using other channels, you can write to us at info@websitesyseo.com; we will reply as soon as possible and, in any case, within one month at most. If you are a consumer you may also turn to the consumer alternative dispute resolution entities accredited under Spanish Law 7/2017, to the Galician Consumer Arbitration Board through the Instituto Galego de Consumo e da Competencia, or to the European Consumer Centre in Spain if you live in another country of the European Union, Iceland or Norway, as detailed in the GUAY.news general Terms of Use. All of this is without prejudice to your right to go to court.
26. Your rights as a consumer and other clauses
Rights not affected. Nothing in these terms limits or excludes the rights granted to you by consumer protection law or data protection law, which cannot be waived.
Partial invalidity. If any clause is declared void or unenforceable, in whole or in part, it will be deemed not to have been included to that extent and the rest will remain in force. If you are a consumer, the void clause will be integrated in accordance with Article 83 of the TRLGDCU. Our failure at any time to require compliance with any clause does not constitute a waiver of the right to do so in the future.
Languages. These terms are available in Spanish and English. In the event of any discrepancy, the Spanish version prevails, unless mandatory consumer protection law provides otherwise.
